MT. STERLING - Led by the 12 strikeout effort by pitcher Donnie Willman, the McClain Tigers earned their third win of the season, defeating South Central Ohio League foe Madison-Plains 10-6 on Monday evening at Madison-Plains.
Willman (2-0) finished allowing three runs (all earned) and four walks, facing 28 batters. Johnson earned the loss for the Golden Eagles.
Leading the Tigers in the hit column was Justin Smith, who finished 2-of-4, with two RBIs, with a double an a solo home run.
Garrett Case went 2-for-5 at the plate, hitting a double and triple, with one RBI.
McClain had eight players finish with at least one hit. The Tigers finished with 10 hits in the game.
The win improves the Tigers to 3-1 on the season, 1-1 in the SCOL.
The game was tied after the first inning at two, but the Tigers broke the game open in the second, scoring five runs. The Golden Eagles came back in the bottom half of the third, scoring three runs, but the Tigers scored three runs in the final four innings to seal the victory.
"Both teams hit the ball well," McClain coach Brandon Streitenberger said. "We had good timely hitting and we didn't strand a lot of runners on base."
The next game for the Tigers will be today, as they travel to face Logan Elm in non-league play. The Tigers will face Washington C.H. at home on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
