Loveland wins it 55-51 to stop Cane's 9 game win streak Wilmington made it interesting late in the game. Nyles Williams had an old fashioned 4 point play to make it close but Bobby Capobianco nailed some clutch free throws late to seal it. Capobianco led the way with 31 points. Rollins had 16 and Williams 14 for Wilmington. Cane is now 13-4 overall. Loveland is 11-5. WHS goes to Knigs Friday night for a big FAVC Cardinal matchup. Stay tuned to OLR for all the action in that one. --------- After 3 quarters, Loveland 35, Wilmington 30 Capobianco had 12 of Loveland's 13 points in the 3rd and was unstoppable as the Cane let him catch in low. Bobby has 23 for the game. Rollins leads the cane with 11. ------- Loveland 21, Wilmington 20 at the half. Tigers led 15-5 before the Hurricane went on a 10-0 run to tie the game. Hurricane led 20-17 to make it a 15-2 run in all but Tigers scored late to grab a one-point advantage at the break. Rollins had 6 to lead the Cane. Kyle Blakeman with a big 3 for the Cane in the 2nd. Capobianco leads all scorers with 11 points. Tigers had 14 turnvoers in the 1st half. Cane lost it 8 times. ------- Loveland 13, Wilmington 5 after one. Capobianco with 7 to lead all scorers. Seeger with 3 to pace the Cane. ------- Varsity game should tip off at approximately 7:28pm ------- The Wilmington High School boys basketball team takes its 9-game winning streak into Tuesday night's battle against Loveland. It should be a great game. Read on ....
The Tigers are led by 6-8 forward Bobby Capobianco, one of the top players in the state.
Loveland, like Wilmington, was an early-season victim of the Amelia Barons. The Tigers lost to the Barons, 42-41, just days after the Hurricane fell to the Barons.
Loveland is 10-5 and tonight's game is the final in a 6-game road trip.
Wilmington is 13-3 on the year.
This could be a trap game for Wilmington as a big FAVC Cardinal Division showdown awaits at Kings Friday night. Focus will be the key for WHS.
Aside from Amelia, both teams have played Kings this season and ironically both teams beat the Knights by 3 points in OT — Loveland 62-59 and Wilmington 59-56.

, on 29-01-2008 21:52 What do you really think about the substitutions the coach is making? It seems like the boys are becoming frustrated and it's because the coach is provoking them with his tactics... This needs to be addressed!

2. Written by mhuber, on 30-01-2008 12:59 First, let me say I don't see frustration on the players any more at WHS than anywhere else. I know of very few players who like to come out of the game. Some, when they are dead tired but generally, no of the players want to come out. That said, I'm pretty far away and don't get to see their faces from the front when they sit down, so I don't really have a good vantage point to see any frustration. Now, privately, if the players are talking about being frustrated to either you or someone you know, then I would suggest going to the coach and talking about with him. As I look at it, I don't see crazy moves that Noszka is making when it comes to subs. I have seen a coach put a player in the game, the player commits a mistake (turnover, missed shot, etc... ) and he/she is immediately taken out of the game on the very next dead ball chance. So again, I don't see a bad substitution pattern with Noszka. Now outside the regular rotation of players, I believe there were times in some of the blowouts he could have gone to his bench when the game was out of reach, but some coaches believe that sends a bad signal to players that the game is "ours" and we can relax. With the schedule Wilmington plays, there is no chance to relax (see Amelia) so I believe that tactic may have been more of a mental challenge than an actual game situation move.

, on 30-01-2008 17:20 In a sense all of your insight is good yet there is rumbling in the camp and with the talent Coach N has it is and will be not only hard to satisfy everyone... it will really be impossible! I just want to see the most talented players get a chance to excel without being punished because "he can limit them" on their minutes and overall opportunity to play to their potential. Players need time in the game even playing through mistakes because ultimately the next level deems a player have had time on the court or they will be behind other athlete's. Players should play because they produce not because of their name... Talent, performance and work ethic should rule but as evident by last game only the few get a chance to shine! Just look at K. Blakeman, he came in with energy and scoring yet he did not get looked at the rest of the game, while others could not through it in the ocean. Coach N has a lot of good ball players and all I am saying is he could explore other options to see if there is any better chemistry on the court with various combinations of players. Looking at it realistically, he could play 10 players and run opponents out of the gym with speed, shooting and by stretching the court covering the passing lanes. Think about it you have Q. Rollins, J. Berlin, C. Osterbach (?) K. Seager, M. Heard, N. Williams, K. Blakeman, L. Harris, B. Arehart, J. Cowin (hopefully we see him back next year)... mostly speed, some strength and a lot of good shooters... This is what most coaches would dream about but I have noticed a lot of arguing, between coach and player, going on on the bench to the point that kids switch seats to get thier teammate out of the line of fire. This is a great class of kids and it reminds me of just a year ago when we had another class of kids that had much potential and yet inner problems got the best of the team. The question comes to mind, what happen and is it happening again?

4. Written by Hurricane Supporter, on 21-02-2008 17:05 Everyone has to remember Coach N came here from Wabash with a losing record and he really doesn't know these kids that well, these kids have played together since the 2nd and 3rd grade. This class has a lot of talented players and each kid is different. Congratulations to Coach N on Coach of the Year, wow wouldn't that be nice, to come from a losing record and come into a team like this one, wow. You may be right about what you are seeing on the bench with the players but it doesn't matter because some things will never change. Why argue about it because it will do no good, a coach is going to do what he wants, and yes you are right about controlling everything, what Coach couldn't control the kids playing time, points, etc. Anyways Wilmington has a great boys basketball team and Two more years it will be interesting to see what the team will look like.

5. Written by lovinthegame, on 22-02-2008 16:15 Yeah, I agree somewhat and definitely these kids are special… In essence my thought is, as a community of folks loving hoops and understanding the potential that hoops can be used to learn life lessons we have a responsibility to ensure all kids get the support they need to succeed. Sports breed these life lessons in the areas of being committed to task, showing forth work ethic and building positive relationships. With the talent we have seen this year some of these kids have the potential to receive scholarships to play at schools known for tradition and success and we should be supporting their efforts not diminishing their dreams. The concept of team should be lifting the players to another level of commitment to the game which in turn is a lesson builder that will increase their potential to be successful in life… It is hurtful to see kids becoming frustrated at this early stage of life because of poor relationships between authority figure (coach) and player. The coach should be leading the players to their potential not pressing them to explode or act out in a rebellious manner… I was just wondering why M. Heard didn’t play in the second half of the 1st round tournament play. There are some questions regarding how some of the players are reacting and in fact how they are being treated yet you are right in the fact that a coach is going to do what he feels is right. I actually think we should embrace coach N. and help him build a better relationship with all the players. That is the only way to ensure the success of having a great team and a great program!!! All coach needs is some support because expectations are high and we all want the best for the kids and the program, I hope… So in short we have some work to do and it starts with mending relationships and gaining trust both between parent, coach and player!!! Asking the right questions keep us all on target with the answers… Go Canes and congratulations to the school staff, coaching staff and players on a good season!

, on 22-02-2008 17:00 I have to say I agree with so much of what you are saying, and you are so right about kids should be built up, not broken down. I think their are many parents of the kids who would agree with you, yet who won't step up and talk about it because if they did then they would be looked at differently or they would be the one who is out of line. Mark Huber made a good point in talking with the Coach, but like many beleive that is just not going to work because as a Coach he is going to do what he wants, but I hope and pray that the next 2 years will be better. Don't get me wrong I beleive that Coach N is a good Coach, yet I also beleive what you said about interactions with the players, parents and Coach is so crucial because I don't think anyone wants this team to be so frustrated where they just start quitting or not caring anymore. Coach N has support yet I believe it is the interactions with the kids that will make a big difference. Really knowing the kids, not one of them, all of them.
