FAYETTEVILLE — The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs won their second game in as many days, defeating Southern Hills League counterpart Fayetteville 6-0 on Tuesday.
Both teams kept each other off the scoreboard until the top of the fifth when the Mustangs ripped three runs past the Rockets, as Dallas Puckett batted in Daulton Cox and Derek Harris bashed a two-run single, scoring Ky Covert and Darren Harp. In the seventh, the Mustangs scored three more runs, with Harp, Puckett and Harris increasing the lead to 6-0. Puckett and Harris each finished with two hits, while Harp, Cox and Cody Roush each earned one hit. Puckett also earned a double, with two RBIs and one run scored. Gaining the win for the Mustangs was Dakota Dye. The sophomore pitched six strong innings, allowing two hits and one walk. Dye struck out seven batters. Ryan Doss entered the game in the seventh inning, allowing no hits, with two strikeouts and two walks. "We had a nice pitching effort from Dakota (Dye)," Lynchburg-Clay coach Aric Fiscus said. "He pitched well in his first varsity appearance and kept his pitch count down throughout the game. I can't ask for much more. "Dakota had the defense behind him the whole game and we didn't commit any errors for the second straight game. I told the team that the defense has to be there each game," Fiscus said. The Rockets earned their hits in the third and fourth innings. The Mustangs stand at 2-1 overall, with an SHL mark of 2-1. The next game for Lynchburg-Clay will be on Thursday, as they travel to face Eastern Brown at 5 p.m. SUMMARY: LCHS — 000 030 3 — 6 6 0 FAHS — 000 000 0 — 0 2 4 Add as favourites (65) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 1365
