The Mustangs (1-1, 1-1) scored four runs in the bottom part of the second inning, increasing their lead to 5-0, after scoring one run in the first.
West Union came back at the top part of the second, scoring one run, but were unable to hold off the bats of the Mustangs in the bottom half of the second.
Leading 5-1, Lynchburg-Clay padded their lead to 10-1 after the fourth inning, scoring five runs in the inning.
The L-C rally began with two outs in the bottom half of the fourth, as Josh Bales crushed a RBI single to centerfield, making the score 7-1, after the Mustangs scored one run earlier in the fourth.
Continuing to have things go their way, the Mustangs loaded the bases in the same inning, with two outs, as Daulton Cox crushed a 3-run triple to right-centerfield, increasing the L-C lead to 10-1.
"We did well offensively," Lynchburg-Clay coach Aric Fiscus said. "Any time you can take advantage of your opponents mistakes, that's a good thing. We also did an excellent job of taking bases."
The Dragons scored two runs in the top half of the fifth, to make the score 10-3.
Earning the win for the Mustangs was Cody Roush. Roush (1-1) pitched five innings, allowing two hits, three runs (all earned) and two walks. Roush finished with seven strike outs.
"Cody (Roush) pitched an excellent game for the most part," Fiscus said.
In relief, Cox pitched two innings for the Mustangs, allowing one hit and earning one strikeout.
Leading the Mustangs at the plate were Jon Ramsey and Bales, as each batter finished 2-for-4, with both scoring one run apiece.
Ryan Doss and Darren Harp each scored two runs against the Dragons. Also scoring runs for the Mustangs were Dallas Puckett, and Ky Covert.
The Dragons were led by Brennan Grooms, James Crask and Kyle Griffin, as each gained a hit. Crask, Griffin and Craig Samples each scored runs for the Dragons.
The loss was charged to Ash Price of West Union.
"We made the routine plays and hopefully we can string together games like this and we can be in good shape at the end of April," Fiscus said.
The next game for the Mustangs will be today at 5 p.m., when they travel to Fayetteville in SHL action. SUMMARY: WUHS - 001 020 0 - 3 3 0 LCHS - 140 500 x - 10 8 0 Add as favourites (54) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 1100
