To all EC Posters: here is my take on the situation.East Clinton has always been a Basketball School.  Now that there is some lean years it is suddenly the Coach’s fault.  My take on the situation as an outsider is that the talent has been very lean for the last few years.  Now there can be a variety of reasons for that. Not to bash the previous coach because he is a personal friend but he knew when to get out. Some coaches are smart as to see that when the well starts to run dry it is time to hit the highway.  This is not a knock on him but the talent now is nowhere near what it was back than. In Coach Miller’s defense he has lost a great person and friend in his life (his father) this past season.  Dusty spent many hours with this man and I guarantee you that he would  do anything to have just one more time with him.  With that being said maybe it is time that Dusty get a fresh start somewhere else .  Complacency I personally believe led to Dusty’s downfall. I truly believe that Dusty tried to not let the general public see his best side of his personality and this hurt him. East Clinton as well as any school will survive whether I or anyone else believes it was justified or not.  But just a word of advice for EC fans don’t expect miracles to happen

howie, as a basketball school. that was the past. u ask any athlete what they are looking for the most and they would say football. EC was a basketball school. now they dont look for basketball they dont work to death to be ready for basketball they get ready for football and play the other sports to stay fit for football.

Umm, East Clinton a football school?  That is funny!  Shocked Shocked  Sure, they had a few good seasons and a good coach, but that is a bad topic around here.  Really, no school should just say they are a "_________" school.  They should take pride in all their programs and not use silly excuses for bad records.  Lean talent, I really don't think so - poorly developed talent - Yes.

OK ex, I guess I have to go back and read your previous posts. Now u got my curiosity up. Glad to hear your still a fan.

Z....you got me confused. in your first paragraph you say you're off to work, then you tell ex he can find you at the local watering hole. I'm sure you meant "after work" right?Huh i've known you for a long time and never knew you to visit watering holes...LOL

also Z...as much as it pains me to agree with you, you're absolutely right about that school across the county. Their programs are improving every year and I think that's the key. A good head coach works to improve the "program". The coaching during the season part is just the icing on the cake. Someone mentioned earlier that the coach's are evaluated at the end of each year, The first Question should be is the "program" any better now than it was this time last year and the 2nd Huh should be what did you do as a coach to improve the "program",,,third Huh is what plans and/or goals do you have to improve the program for next year. I"m not talking major improvements but if you improve on the little things each year that will add up over time.

and that goes for any sport and any head coach. If the AD and Principle are content with the status quo and not interested in improving things then that's a problem. The whole reason sports are in school are because someone, somewhere thought that the kids benifited by playing sports in area's such as discipline, working together as a team, being around leaders that show what hard work and dedication can do for you after school.  Learning how to win and lose gracefully.

Massie has made alot of improvements in their schools and the athletic programs are only a part of those improvements. congrats to them.  they've raised the bar now its time for us to do the same.

Gator,  You should stop by board office and request an evaluation of any coach you want. That is if U want a good laugh cause they are a joke.

You have been  misinformed about watering holes I like most of them. Stop by on Friday's after work and I'll buy U a cold one.

I've recently been informed that Ryan Briggs will be leaving Fayetteville to coach at East Clinton where he grew up, went to school and graduated from!  I've heard he will be coaching both the basketball and the baseball teams at East Clinton just as he does at Fayetteville.  In Basketball, Ryan just led the Rockets to their 1st ever SHL League Title, and to the most wins in the school's history!  In baseball, he has led the Rockets to back-to-back SHL League Championships!  So, I just want to say good luck to Coach Briggs and I hope you have the same success as you have had while at Fayetteville!

edawg, thanks for the info. iffffffffffff you know what you are talking about. cmon Z you are letting me down. i know i still owe you lunch and i am going to get to that. but i thought you would let me know when we got a new coach. it is a shame that we have to find out on here about it. but i guess the people around sabina are right what they keep saying and i have disagreed with. about the newspaper being the clinton massie news journal, i guess when we play like the door mat of the county i guess we get treated like it. heck there are still people wondering why it wasnt in the paper about dusty. atleast kitchen made a statement. even if dusty didnt want to defend his self the paper could have at least told that . i'll bet if massie lost one of there coaches it would be on the front page. ah thats right blan's football coach just quit . i know because i read it in the newspaper. and huber before you get on here and dogg me for picking on the c.m. news journal. cmon man back years ago when you was gun ho on all this stuff you would have been right on this subject and i know you have moved on to bigger and better things but your replacements have terrible..............................

To exastro fan
1- if you are going to have a name like that, then don't complain about what is happening at EC. If you are going to insinuate that you are not an EC fan any longer, don't act like you care about them now.
2- Thursday, April 5, there was an article in the Wilmington News Journal about Dusty Miller no longer being the coach at ECHS. If you really read the paper you would know that.
3- If you are going to try to punk someone out and tell Huber his replacements have terrible ... complete your thought and don't be a chicken.

keeper, or soccer chicken.......... whatever your name is and i am the chicken atleast i put my name on here and i am not worried what everybody thinks. now to answer your questions, first of all about my name the reason it is EXastrofan is because that a certain amount of people that run the school have let it get ran in the ground, secondly as far as the story about dusty all it said was that e.c. was looking for a boys basketball coach it didnt say anything about why he wasnt coming back. the reason that was. was because no body from the clinton massie journal went out there to find out why he wasnt coming back. now as far as huber and his kronies. he wanted to get on here and voice his opinion on a couple board members out there and they're desicions but he no one wanted to report why dusty was leaving because they are afraid they might piss someone off. now for your third question, i believe if you back and read i put why i am dogging the replacements, because the sports pages have sucked since huber quit doing it. it is either read about a cross country runner from cleveland or mississippi or bum-f-egypt that is at wilminton college ( who cares!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ) or read about a first grade SOCCER TEAM  from clinton massie. before you thank me for my reply i will say ur welcome Wink Smiley Grin Roll Eyes Kiss

Does anyone know when they will be naming the new coach? From what I have heard they have still been interviewing but I figured they would want to name one soon so that person could get their summer basketball schedule planned out with their new team.

As for any official announcements, there may be a recommendation to the board at Tuesday's meeting. I cannot, however, print the information until it is formally recommended to the board because until then it is all speculation. The board also has to approve the hiring. If there is a recommendation for a boys or girls varsity basketball coach made to the board, it will be printed in Wednesday's News Journal along with any resume information available and a photo if said candidate is at the meeting. It also will be posted on this web site as soon as posible that evening. I have not received any information on the coaching situation. I know the athletic department does not like to make official statements to the press until the board has heard the recommendation. As for what was printed about Dusty Miller, I never received any more information about the situation - and I did seek comment after finding the boys varsity position on the internet. I cannot print what I cannot attribute to someone directly. That is the beauty of forums like this where gossip can run rampant.

And finally, to my biggest fan - Exastrofan - I can understand your dislike of the administration, but the real Astros are the athletes that are out there working hard every day. And people do care what is going on at the college and in the youth leagues. EC had some pretty tough youth girls basketball players this year, and the people in the community like to hear about Ashley Johnson, Billy Blackburn, Wes Anders, Marque Jones, Lyndsie Roy, Kerry Wilkinson, Tyler Webb, Schuler Streber, Chris Herrington (need I continue) - and even the kids from other states and countries that come to Clinton County to compete in intercollegiate athletics.

sclark, first of all thanks for the response and secondly, you read like you do you job which is half ass because i never at no time mentioned and thing about the locals in the area at college. i enjoy reading about them but as far as the rest. ( who cares ) and by the way i wasnt just picking on you in generally. you can go back and look at others that have been sports editors they have been just as bad. all i know is when the blan football coach quit it was a 2 page articile and when dusty pretty much got run out of e.c. all it said was that they were looking for a basketball coach Kiss Tongue Roll Eyes Angry Angry Angry Angry
