After watching the county tourney this year were there any surprises about any of the teams? I was suprised in just how strong wilmington looked and in comparison how weak they made to other 3 teams look. That group of boys that wilmington has are really good and they can only get better in the years to come. The other 3 teams are really going to have to pick it up if any of them hope to knock wilmington off their throne.

And Wilmington won both the freshman and JV tournaments to boot, for what that's worth. It does look bleak for the county schools but we are talking about a Div. I program in Wilmington. I know they are playing D2 district this year, but in recent years they have been D1 going against D4 and D5 schools in the county.

I didnt get down there either, but I have not seen any JV players I feel confident in saying would be totally ready to step into a varsity situation next year and help. Maybe Kyle Blakeman of Wilmington next season but he's fighting a numbers game there.

Of course, with boys it sometimes is very, very hard to tell because they can grow so much physically and mentally from one year to the next at this age, that a kid may look totally lost one year and come back the next and be a major varsity contributor. I'll see if I can snoop around and get some more information on the JV and freshmen and then pass it along.

Look to the SHL Fayetteville Rockets 6'7" Senior Mat Greene to be a genuine local prospect. Averaging a double double(maxpreps.com) on a struggling team.
