Chaminade’s quick strikes lead to Lehman loss PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 18 September 2008

DAYTON — Chaminade scored four goals in a 10-minute span in the second period, and that was the deceiving final score over the Lehman Cavaliers in high school boys soccer action Thursday in Dayton.

The Cavaliers stand at 8-2 after the 4-0 loss and take on top-ranked Bethel Tuesday on the road.

The Cavs battled the Eagles to a scoreless deadlock for the first half and for 15 minutes of the second half.

But that’s when the Eagles were in the right place at the right time.

“Most of them were off deflections,” said Lehman coach Tony Schroeder. “Our goalie got his hands on the ball, but they were right there to knock in the deflections.

“When you’re playing a good team and lose your focus, they are going to take full advantage, and that’s what happened. But to our kids’ credit, after those four goals, they really got thigs together and we had some scoring opportunities late.”

Lehman was outshot 10-4 in the first half, but that was with Chaminade getting eight corner kicks in the first period.

“That was the only difference in the first half,” said Schroeder. “Parker Cole really stepped up and had a good game. Our entire midfield of Parker, Wade Schroeder and Bryan McDonagh all had good games and really controlled the midfield.”

Lehman goalie Dan Westerheide had 16 saves.

Lady Cavs win 3-1

The Lehman girls raised their record to 9-1 with a 3-1 win over Troy Christian in action Thursday.

Ten minutes into the game, the Lady Cavs scored first on an unassisted goal by Megan Baird, the junior fullback’s first goal of the season.

Troy Christian was able to tie the score at the 17:15 mark, and it remained 1-1 at the break.

In the second half, Lehman wasted little time gaining the upper hand again. After just five minutes of play, Brittney McDonagh scored her fifth goal of the season on an assist from Kalli Holland.

Then with 28 minutes remaining, senior Maggie Franklin tallied her 10th goal of the season on a redirect of Gretchen Walter’s cross.

Lehman outshot the Lady Eagles 16-5, Goalie Kaitlin Jenkins had four saves the Lady Cavs.

Lehman will return to action Monday at home against Springfield Catholic at 5 p.m.
