BAINBRIDGE - The Fairfield Lions went into the half with an 11-point lead and finished the game with the same lead, as they defeated non-league opponent Paint Valley 57-46, Friday night at PVHS.

In both teams season opener, the Lions outscored PV 11-10 in the first quarter, but grinded out a 20-10 second quarter, which proved to be the difference maker in the game.

PV outscored FHS 13-12 in the third, but the Lions roared back in the final quarter with a 14-13 advantage.

FHS sophomore Chris Cox led all scorers with a game-high 15 points, going 5-of-5 from the free-throw line.

Senior Jon Barber led FHS with 14 assists and six points.

FHS senior Patrick Rudisill finished with 14 points, hitting seven field goals. Senior Steven Evans finished with 12 points.

“We played well defensively at times, but we need to work on our free throw shooting,” Fairfield head coach Matt Carson said. “As a team we had 19 assists and we rebounded well most of the time.

“I was pleased with how the kids played their heart out.”

Paint Valley was led by senior Matt Workman with 14 points.

The Lions finished 7-of-16 from the free-throw line (PV 12-of-19).

The Lions will play again tonight, as they travel to face East Clinton.

In JV action, PV defeated FHS 28-25. In the freshman game, FHS defeated PV 50-27.
