Jackson Center beats Anna in four PDF Print E-mail

ANNA — The matchup of county volleyball titans went to Jackson Center in four games Thursday over Anna, 25-21, 25-20, 26-28, 25-21.

It was Jackson’s first county game and puts the Lady Tigers at 2-0 overall.

Anna is 1-1, both games in league play.

“It was a great match,” said JC coach Kim Metz.

Allissa Ware had 21 kills and 14 digs and Casey Gates 19 kills and nine digs.

Bethany Hoehne had 25 assists and three aces and Cortnee Sosby had 23 assists and 11 digs.

Tara Spicer added three aces and Michelle Carmen had two blocks.

For Anna, Kelsie Zumberger had 47 assists and four aces, Laura Gehret had 20 kills, Carrie Watkins 14 kills, Stephanie Romie six kills and Chelsea Cavender three aces.

“It was a battle back and forth,” said Anna coach Karen Zumberger. “I thought our girls played better than they did in our first game. We just need to tweak our serve receive.”

The JV match went to Jackson 25-15, 15-25, 25-17.

Loramie stays

undefeated

FORT LORAMIE — Fort Loramie ran its county record to 2-0 and remained unbeaten overall with a 25-16, 25-21, 25-20 win over Botkins Thursday.

The Lady Redskins, 3-0 on the year, got eight kills and four aces from Bethany Hoelscher and six blocks and four aces from Andrea Holthaus. Clair Ruhenkamp added four kills and 12 assists.

“We played well tonight but we still have a long way to go,” said Loramie coach John Rodgers. “We still have yet to put a complete game together. There seems to be a lag at some point in each game.”

For Botkins, Christie Fullenkamp pounded out 19 kills and added nine digs, Megan Fullenkamp had six kills, 10 digs and three aces, Amanda Koch had 15 digs, Morgan Fullenkamp 15 assists and Hannah Geyer 11 assists.

Loramie won the JV game 25-15, 25-16.

Fairlawn goes to 3-0

Fairlawn upped its record to 3-0 under first-year coach Danielle Cathcart, defeating Russia 25-15, 25-22, 25-27, 25-23.

The Lady Jets are 2-0 in the county now. Russia is 0-2 and 1-3.

“We played great tonight,” said Cathcart. “The defense was awesome.”

Courtney Davidson had 20 kills, Leesha Bolton had eight kills and 20 digs, Ashley Burch had six kills and two blocks, Mindy Hughes had 30 assists, Kaitlin Patrick had 14 digs and Kayla Hamilton 12 digs.

For Russia, Roni Homan had 17 kills and 16 digs, Sam Daniel had 10 kills and four aces, Kristin Drees had 26 assists and 14 digs, Mary Schulze had 12 digs, Chloe McEldowney nine digs and Kristi Borchers eight digs.

“We came out very flat tonight,” said Russia coach Lori Smith. “Two major focuses for us in practice were serving and serve reception. We struggled with both tonight, missing serves at critical times during the match. And we had too many hitting errors. When you factor in all three, it’s hard to find success. But Fairlawn deserves credit. They played solid volleyball.”

Russia won the JV game 25-17, 25-22.

Lady Cavs win

to even mark

GREENVILLE — The Lehman volleyball team evened its record with a 25-12, 25-13, 25-10 win over Greenville.

“We passed the ball better and did a good job keeping the ball in play,” Lehman coach Greg Snipes said. “Our hard work in practice is starting to pay off.”

Sarah Lynch pounded out 14 kills. Anne Fortkamp and Morgan Schmitmeyer each had five kills, while Jessica Thobe added eight kills and 12 digs.

Marlee Wion dished out 27 assists and Jenni Paulus had nine digs.

Lehman will host the Lehman Invitational Saturday. The Lady Cavs, 1-1, will play their first match at 9 a.m.

Minster knocks

off Versailles

VERSAILLES — Minster went on the road and posted a big Midwest Athletic Conference win, knocking off Versailles 25-14, 25-17, 25-23.

The win evens Minster’s record at 1-1 and drops Versailles to 2-1.

Erica Fullenkamp had 10 kills and two blocks for Minster, Delanie Wolf had nine kills, Sarah Purpus eight kills, Kara Monnin 20 assists, and Ellen Gruber 17 assists and three aces.

Minster also won the JV game 19-25, 26-24, 27-25, with Hanna Floyd getting five kills, Sarah Huelsman four aces, and Sarah Luebke and Tara Clune four blocks each.

Bremen downs NK

New Bremen defeated New Knoxville in MAC action 25-16, 25-20, 25-18.

Jackie Dabbelt had 14 kills for the Bremen, Taylor Jones nine kills and 10 assists, and Becca Dwenger had 12 assists and six aces.
