HILLSBORO — Hillsboro brought out the Fourth of July fireworks a few days early Tuesday evening at Shaffer Park, as they scored a combined 36 runs in a twinbill against Bainbridge Post 14, winning Game 1, 14-3 in five innings and Game 2, 22-0 in four innings.

By STEPHEN FORSHA The Times-Gazette HILLSBORO — Hillsboro brought out the Fourth of July fireworks a few days early Tuesday evening at Shaffer Park, as they scored a combined 36 runs in a twinbill against Bainbridge Post 14, winning Game 1, 14-3 in five innings and Game 2, 22-0 in four innings. Post 129’s Airic Steagall was top billing as the No. 3 hitter had 10 combined RBIs in the doubleheader, including five in the first inning of the opening contest. In the inning, Steagall hit a two-run double and a three-run home run. Game 1 saw Post 129 jump out to a 10-1 advantage, with the first six hitters crossing home plate. The inning began with Cody Shaver and Brandon Arehart hitting singles, followed by Steagall’s two-run double. After an error landed Aric Carroll on first, Travis Orr singled. Carroll then scored on a wild pitch and Andrew Seaman forced a base on balls. With one out, Ben Barnett singled in Orr. With two outs and two runners on base, Steagall blasted a home run over the right field fence, scoring Barnett and Orr for the nine-run lead. Bainbridge scored two runs in the second inning with Zach Uhl and Jimmy Barnett touching home plate on an error. Jimmy Barnett also scored a run in the first inning on a wild pitch. Hillsboro added four runs to their lead in the bottom of the third. Carroll reached on a two-out walk, followed with a single from Orr. Carroll was knocked in by Andrew Seaman and Orr scored on an error, leaving Seaman safe at first base. Seaman and Ian Adams also scored in the inning, with Adams scoring off a single from Ben Barnett. Orr was credited with the win in Game 1. Orr pitched five innings, allowing three runs on three hits, two walks and one hit batter. Orr finished with six strikeouts. Shaver, Arehart and Steagall each went 2-for-4. Shaver had two RBIs and two runs scored. Arehart scored two runs and Steagall also scored two runs. Carroll and Seaman ended Game 1 with two runs each. Orr was 2-for-3 with two runs. In the second game at Shaffer Park Tuesday night, Post 129 dominated the game from start to finish. Ben Harmon earned the win for Post 129 on the mound. In four innings Harmon gained nine strikeouts, striking out six batters in the final two innings. Harmon allowed one hit and walked one batter. Hillsboro started off the second game with a four-run first inning and three-run second inning to take a 7-0 lead. Then in the bottom of the third Hillsboro blasted out 15 runs on nine hits and six walks for the 22 run advantage. Cody Elliott (WSHS) finished 4-for-4, with three RBIs and two runs. Carroll was 3-for-4, with three runs. Steagall was 2-for-4 with five RBIs and two runs. Carrington was 2-for-3 with four runs, three RBIs and one walk. Tucker Hughes finished 1-for-2, with four runs, two RBIs and two walks. Casey Spriggs was 1-for-3, with one run and one walk. Cody Elliott (EBHS) scored two runs and Caleb Gregory forced three walks, scoring all three times. Brett Carrington scored one run and had one RBI.
