Hillsboro senior distance runner Tyler Agenbroad finished his high school track career in the exact place where he set out to, at Jesse Owens Stadium, in the Division II State Track & Field Championships on Saturday afternoon in Columbus.
Agenbroad finished with a time of 2:01.09, for a 14th place finish in the 800-meter run, as Agenbroad enjoyed his time in Columbus.
"It was crazy, I looked around and their were people everywhere," Agenbroad said. "Before the race I just watched the other runners and followed their lead, trying to take the same steps as they were. It was tough competition and it was a great experience overall. This will be something I will never forget."
During the distance event at state, Agenbroad started off the race in second place, saying that it was one of the top memories he will take from running against the top 800-meter runners in the state.
"I was in second place for a few moments on the first lap. As I was running I thought to myself, oh man am I going to keep this spot," Agenbroad said.
Cory Leslie, of Sandusky Perkins, won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:50.77, earning the state meet record, but just before that event he won the 1600-meter run.
"Corey Leslie dominated the 1600-meter run and then he comes over to the 800 and starts warming up for the race," Agenbroad said. "It kind of made me nervous, but it was fun to be apart of."
Agenbroad also wanted to say thanks to those who showed their support throughout the state meet.
"I just want to thank everyone who came and watched me (Saturday) and thank my friends for their support," Agenbroad said. "I also want to thank my mom for supporting me."
Being a goal of his for the past four years, the recent Hillsboro graduate realized dreams can become reality, making a memory that will last a lifetime.
"Just running at state, it was a dream come true. I will never
forget this moment," Agenbroad said.
