A late inning rally by the Hillsboro softball team was not enough, as the Washington Blue Lions defeated the Lady Indians 9-7 at Shaffer Park.
The game began with the Lady Lions scoring two runs apiece in the first two innings, taking an early 4-0 early.
Hillsboro answered in the bottom of the third, scoring a run, making the score 4-1.
Hillsboro couldn't keep the Lady Lions for the remainder of the game, with Washington taking 9-3 lead heading into the bottom half of the seventh.
The Lady Indians rallied with runs scored by Brittany Abbott, Ashley Sanders, Heather Storer and Paij Shelton. Abbott was also credited with an RBI in the seventh inning.
Abbott led Hillsboro at the plate with a 3-for-4 effort, finishing with one RBI.
Sanders finished 2-for-3, with two RBIs.
Scoring runs for Hillsboro were Lauren Boester, Abbott, Sanders, Storer, Shelton and Kayla Rosselott.
Rosselott was charged with the loss for the Lady Indians. The pitcher finished with eight strikeouts, allowing 11 walks, nine runs (three earned) and eight hits.
Taylor Dugan earned the win for Washington. Dugan finished with 11 strikeouts, seven walks, seven runs (three earned) and six hits.
The Lady Indians stand at 0-2 overall (0-2 SCOL).
