GREENVILLE - Greenville’s high school girls golf team recorded a final regular season win Monday night at the Greenville Country Club, nipping Northmont 198-199 to finish the season at 12-6 in dual and triangular matches.

Despite some higher-than-usual scoring, coach Frank Rust is optimistic that the team will have a good day Thursday in the biggest day, so far, of the fall, 2008 prep season-the Division I sectional to be played at Pipestone, near Miamisburg.

“We have a good chance to get out (advance to district play), because we have beaten most of the 11 other teams that will be there,” Rust said after Monday’s play.

Centerville, Chaminade-Julienne, Northmont and Beavercreek are four of those teams in action Thursday, and Rust thinks that, based on results earlier in the season, Greenville will be in the thick of the battle with the aforementioned foes to earn a spot in district play.

“We need to score well, but I think a team score of under 400 (four players playing 18 holes) will be good enough to advance.”

Jackie McCauley had the lowest score for Greenville on Monday, shooting 46 for nine holes, while Alexa Hetzler shot 47 and Jalyn McCauley 50. Ashlee Hetzler, Devan Bruner and Beth Shields were the other three Lady Wave players competing on Thursday.

The team is scheduled to tee off at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday.

Versailles was scheduled to play Monday as well, but the team cancelled its participation in the match late last week. The Lady V-Tigers will play Wednesday at Heatherwood near Springboro in Division II district play, along with individual players Lizzy Komma of Franklin Monroe and Devon Meyer of Arcanum.

On the other part of the Greenville Country Club course on Monday, Greenville also battled Northmont in high school boys golf, and senior Mac Fiely shot a three-over 38 for the day.

More on the Monday Green Wave boys play, plus the team’s Tuesday regular season finale at home with Piqua, in an upcoming edition.

Greenville will play Wednesday at the Beavercreek Golf Club in the Division I sectional there, while Versailles, Franklin Monroe and Arcanum will all compete Thursday at Weatherwax near Middletown in the D-III district match.
