The Georgetown Lady G-Men upped their season record to 3-0 Saturday night with a 50-45 win over Batavia.
Leading the way in Saturday’s win was Georgetown freshman Casey Carter with 19 points. Carter also pounded the boards to grab eight rebounds in the win over Batavia.

The two teams struggled to gain an edge in the first half, and ventured to the locker room at halftime tied at 24.
Carter drove to the basket for a score with 3:20 to go in the third quarter and followed by burying a shot from beyond the arc to give the Lady G-Men a 35-29 lead.
The Lady G-Men went on to outscore the Lady Bulldogs 12-7 in the third frame, entering the fourth quarter with a 36-31 lead.
Solid execution in the third quarter made the difference for the Lady G-Men in Saturday’s game, as the two teams came up even at 14 in the final frame and the Lady G-Men sent the Lady Bulldogs back to Batavia with a 50-45 loss.
“I didn’t think we played too well in the first half. We let them get too many easy baskets in transition in the first half, but I thought we did a much better job in the second half. They played smart and they played hard,” said Georgetown girls basketball coach Bernie Cropper. “We did a better job getting back on defense in the second half.
“Casey (Carter) hit some big shots and had eight rebounds. (Sophomore) Amanda (Jelley) had a really good second half. She was on the bench in foul trouble for a lot of the first half, but she came out and hit some big shots in the second half and showed great leadership as the point guard. (Sophomore) Kirsten (Grant) played a strong inside game. She also hit some big shots for us in the second half.”
Jelley and Grant each contributed eight points in Saturday’s win over the Lady Bulldogs.
The Georgetown Lady G-Men kicked off the 2008-2009 season with three league games, taking wins over Felicity-Franklin, East Clinton and now Batavia. The Lady G-Men remain on top of the Southern Buckeye Athletic/Academic Conference National Division with a 3-0 league record and were scheduled to face Williamsburg at home on Dec. 9, followed by Blanchester in a road game, Dec. 11, as they journey down the long path in a quest for their ninth straight SBAAC title.
