By Tim Langevin Sports Writer DAYTON — Fort Loramie started the game sluggish, but sizzled in the second half to record a convincing 41-0 victory over Dayton Belmont Saturday at Welcome Stadium in high school football action.
In the process, Loramie snapped a three-game losing streak courtesy of the winless Bison. Loramie head coach Jon McCumber said that freshman Ryan Humphreys would share the quarterback duties with senior Jay Schulze. Humphreys performed decently, completing 3-of-9 passes for 55 yards. Schulze connected on 6-of-16 for 91 yards and three TD tosses. In addition, he ran for 41 yards. Schulze has thrown for 13 TDs and 1,053 yards on the season. “I wanted consistency at the quarterback position,” McCumber said. “Whoever was hot at the time stayed in the game. I think it is good to have competition for positions and to let the players know that none of the starters’ jobs are secure.” Leading 14-0 at halftime, the Redskins, now 2-4, exploded for 20 points in the third quarter to take a commanding 34-0 margin. All three scoring drives started on the Belmont side of the field. The Bison fumbled the second-half kickoff and Loramie took over on the 30-yard line. It looked like the Redskins were going to blow the opportunity until Schulze hooked up with Cody Albers on a 30-yard TD pass on fourth and 15. Then it was like, deja vu. Belmont fumbled again and Loramie took over on the 28-yard line. Once again, it looked like the Redskins would squander the moment until Schulze converted a 29-yard TD pass to Tyler Rose on fourth and 11. When the Redskins went to the air, it was ground control to Tyler Rose. The 5-11 junior caught five passes for 82 yards and two touchdowns. That gives him seven TDs and 519 receiving yards on the year. Fort Loramie scored the hard-earned way with 1:52 left in the third quarter on a seven play, 47-yard drive. Four different players shared the load, gaining 37 of the 47 yards on the ground. Jake Stephens ran twice for seven yards. Schulze sprinted for 10 yards. Eric Drees ran for 15 yards on a hook and ladder play and Mitch Raterman punched paydirt from five yards. The game goal for the Redskin defense was to shut out Belmont. Mission accomplished. Loramie’s defense held Belmont to two first downs, 29 yards of total offense, minus-19 yards rushing, and forced four turnovers. In addition, the Bison reached the Fort Loramie side of the field just two times, both in the first half. McCumber said, “The team played well in the second half. Our defense and special teams did a much better job.” Drees had one interception on defense and rushed for 70 yards on just four carries with one touchdown. Raterman gained 86 yards and scored twice. Stephens carried the ball 13 times for 61 yards. Add as favourites (10) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 613
