By Rob Kiser Brown News Service SPRINGBORO — The smile on Fort Loramie junior girls golfer Brooke Albers’ face won’t be going away anytime soon.
Neither will the Lady Redskins program. Albers will be playing in the Division II state tournament after carding an 80 Wednesday at Heatherwoode Golf Course in the district tournament and tying for low score on a non-qualifying team, and second overall. And with five players returning off a Lady Redskins team that finished fourth with a 380 Wednesday, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a few trips to Columbus in the team’s future. “I feel really good about what this team did today,” Loramie coach Mike Anthony said. “Brittany Goettemoeller played her best round. You can’t ask for any more than that.” But, this day belonged to Albers. “It has been my goal since the beginning of the year,” she said. “I hoped I would play well enough.” After that, playing a two-hole playoff with Graham’s Jessie Jordan and Middletown Christian’s Kristie Feldner was a breeze. Jordan won the playoff, which was simply for the medal, after Albers’ par putt stopped on the lip on the second playoff hole. “I already knew I was going to state,” Albers said. “So, the playoff, that was just kind of fun.” And nobody was happier than Anthony. “Brooke has earned it,” he said. “She worked hard in the off-season. We were hoping to qualify as a team, but if we didn’t, I knew Brooke was good enough to qualify. She had a 42 average (for nine holes) this year.” And she did it by scorching the front nine with a one-over par 37, including a birdie on the par-5 fourth hole. “I just tried to play pretty well overall,” she said. “I had one birdie. I just was pretty consistent and played well. I think that put the pressure on me on the back nine.” Add as favourites (12) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 773
