FORT LORAMIE — Ada invaded Redskin Stadium with a high-powered, spread offense resembling a fast break in basketball.

The Bulldogs wasted no time moving the football with their no huddle, shotgun formation, passing for 320 yards and 35 points in the first half en route to a 38-0 victory against Fort Loramie Friday night.

Redskin coach Jon McCumber said, “We are a team trying to find our identity. When it comes down to wins and losses, it is a reflection on me. I need to make the players step up. We have a lot of work to do on open-field tackling.”

Ada’s opening TD drive covered 64 yards on five plays in 1:25 and it was evident who was running the show. QB Mitchell Faine ran for seven yards and passed for 56 yards, including the 10-yard TD pass to Kyle Baker.

On the ensuing kickoff, Loramie’s Tyler Rose caught the ball at the one and bolted up the middle for a 60-yard return to the Bulldog 39-yard line, but the offense stalled and the Redskins were forced to punt.

Ada took over on their own 20 and less than two minutes later, scored again, covering 80 yards on five plays to take a 14-0 advantage with 6:35 left in the opening quarter.

The Redskins stuck to the game plan with Mitch Raterman on the ground. The junior running back carried the load with five carries for 26 yards, but a QB sack for minus-12 yards interrupted the drive and forced Loramie to punt.

Ada scored quickly with Faine leading the 82-yard fast break on five plays to take a 21-0 first-quarter lead. Fain rushed for 32 yards and passed for the remaining 54 yards.

Fort Loramie was able to move the ball, but they couldn’t punch it in the endzone. In the second quarter, trailing 28-0, the Redskins marched down the field methodically with a 79-yard drive, only to fail to punch it in on fourth and goal from the one yard line. Raterman and James McGowan combined for 40 rushing yards.

McCumber said, “That fourth and one play was a gut check and we couldn’t get in the endzone. We need to find leaders. When it comes down to it, we need to get angry, more physical.”

That fourth down stop by Ada took the wind out of the sails for Fort Loramie. The Bulldogs zipped down the field 99 yards on four plays in less than a minute to take a comfortable 35-0 half time margin.

It was an off night for QB Jay Schulze, the leading passer in the area with 741 yards and six touchdowns. The junior struggled, running from defenders most of the evening from even a three-step drop. Schulze finished the game in the third quarter completing 4-for-10 for 20 yards and two interceptions.

Freshman replacement Ryan Humphreys responded by completing 3-for-6 for 48 yards, including a 31-yard pass play to Tyler Rose. Rose also struggled on the night with only four catches for 49 yards. A far cry from last week’s performance.

Raterman paced the ground attack with 77 yards on 21 carries. McGowan added 39 yards on the ground.

Both teams finished the game with 19 first downs and Ada was penalized for 115 yards to Loramie’s 10, but the difference was total yardage. Ada amassed 473 yards to 200 for the Redskins.

McCumber put the back-to-back losses in perspective, “We are going through a tough two-game stretch. The rest of the season will define this team, this town, which is a class act community. We can’t lose sight. It’s time to stop losing and start winning.”

Fort Loramie falls to 1-3 on the season and looks to regain winning form at Trimble Glouster Friday.
