LEESBURG - The Fairfield Lady Lions (2-0, 2-0 SHL) shutout the Ripley Lady Blue Jays (0-4, 0-3 SHL) 14-0 behind a two-hit pitching performance by junior Devan Bernard on Tuesday.
Bernard (1-0) allowed two hits, no runs, no walks, with four strikeouts in five innings pitched.
Lenora D'Andrea (0-4) suffered the loss for Ripley. Andrea went four innings, allowing 15 hits, 14 runs (seven earned), one walk, with three strikeouts.
The Lady Lions wasted little time scoring runs, when lead-off hitter Penny Holden laced a double into the right center field gap to begin the bottom part of the first.
Gabby Holden singled to left center field to score Penny Holden. Gabby Holden advanced to second base on a wild pitch and scored on a single hit to left field hit by Kelsey Green.
Later in the inning, Sam Collier drew a walk, scoring on a single to right field by Amber Hagen, making the score 3-0 after the opening inning.
The Lady Lions would add to their lead in the bottom of the second inning, as freshman Abby Thackston led off with a single to right field. Thackston advanced to second base on a passed ball, then to third on a wild pitch. Ashley Fryman singled to right field to drive in Thackston.
Gabby Holden followed with a single to center field advancing Fryman to second. Green was called safe on an infield error to load the bases.
With two outs, Bernard hit a double down the left field line, to drive in Fryman and Gabby Holden increasing the score to 6-0.
Emily Smith singled to right field to lead off the bottom of the third inning. Thackston laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Smith to second base, followed with Fryman blasting a triple off the right-center field fence to make the score 7-0 after three innings.
Fairfield went on to score another seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Green, Bernard, Smith, and Penny Holden had singles in the inning.
Leading hitters for the Lady Lions were Green 3-for-4, double, one run, two RBIs; Gabby Holden 2-for-4, three runs, two RBIs; Fryman 2-for-4, triple, one run, two RBIs; Penny Holden 2-for-4, double, two runs, one RBI; Bernard 2-for-3, double, one run, two RBIs; Smith 2-for-3, one run, two RBIs; Hagen 1-for-3, one run, two RBIs and Thackston 1-for-2, sac bunt, two runs.
Leading hitters for the Lady Blue Jays were Blake Germann 1-for-2 and Workman 1-for-2.
Fairfield committed no errors against Ripley.
The Lady Lions will face Manchester today at 5 p.m. at Manchester in Southern Hills League action.
