LEES CREEK — East Clinton High School senior track and field athlete Jacob Wilson was presented the Brett Wightman Award at the schools spring sports banquet.

The award was created in memory of EC graduate Brett Wightman who was killed in Iraq. Wightman was a standout athlete for the Astros.

The award is presented to a senior track and field athlete who has demonstrated character, dedication, excellence, leadership and sportsmanship.

Also, Rachael Houck and Steven Sodini received the OHSAA Scholar Athlete Awards, while Lara Luttrell and Wilson each received the Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award.

Also at the banquet, the school honored its Southern Buckeye Conference all-league honorees.

Receiving first-team honors were Aeimae Henry, Lara Luttrell, Hilarie Noes, Tessa Witkemper and Sammi Saville for girls track and field; Wilson for boys track and field; Amanda Uhl for softball; and Dirk Eckle for baseball. Second-team honorees include Sam Henderson and Amanda Uhl for girls track and field; Tyler Hughes, Nick McCord and Matt Williams for boys track and field; Chris Moore for baseball; and Kirby Keltner, Lee Morris and Ben Thompson for tennis.

The teams also handed out varsity letters.

From the baseball team, Chris Moore received a third-year varsity letter; Dirk Eckle, Zach Huff, Donnie Ison, Matt Kibler, Matt McFadden and Steve McFadden received second-year letters; and Andrew Bond, Grant Houck, Zak Hough and Grant Woods received first-year letters. Aaron Leibold received a certificate as manager. The team is coached by Robert Lane and Larry Woods.

From the JV baseball team, Kyle Akers, Kaeleb Bean, Gerald Catauro, Chris Clifton, Tyler Conley-Day, Dustin Cunningham, Matt Morrow, Jacob Pinkerton, Michael Seitz, Clint Snow, Dusty Watson and Kyle Yancey received certificates of participation. The team is coached by Cliff Doyle.

From the softball team, Rachael Houck received a fourth-year varsity letter. Third-year letters went to Brittany Spurlock and Amanda Uhl; second-year letters went to Brittany Bosier, Courtney Livingston and BriAnna Ostrander; and first-year letters went to Kayla Boggs, Hannah Hazelbaker, Hannah Moore and Jessie Roberts Mallary Manicho received a certificate of participation. The team is coached by Jeremy McGraw and John Bashore.

JV softball players Murphy Bean, Kelcee Bloch, Rachael Cordrey, Caitlin Fithen, Alyssa Fitzpatrick, Eryn Grooms, Miranda Hardin, Rebecca Houck, Beth Kessler, Amber Lee, Mollie Leisure, Tiffany Luttrell, Katie O’Dell, Trina Wilson and Kysondra Young all received certificates of participation from coaches Matt Schneider and Glen Blessing.

The boys tennis team, coached by Doug Stehlin, presented second-year varsity letters to Kirby Keltner, Lee Morris and Ben Thompson; and first-year letters went to Thomas Rupp, Naveen Sharma, Trevor Stevenson and Jordan Villars.

From the boys track and field team, Jacob Wilson received a fourth-year letter; Josh Dunn received a third-year letter; Chris Dennis, Drew Bussey, Tyler Hughes, Nick McCord, Matt Williams and Andrew Young received second-year letters; C.J. Davis, Mike Dyer and Pavol Malo received first-year letters; and Matt Marsh received a certificate of participation. The team is coached by Tom Kitchen.

The girls track and field team, coached by Jason Potts, presented Amanda Ely, Lara Luttrell and Sammi Saville third-year varsity letters; Sam Henderson and Hilarie Noes received second-year letters; Katelyn Bussey, Aeimae Henry, Lisa Kiemer, Sequoya Laufer, Brianna Roberts, Amanda Uhl, Rebecca Walker, Kaitlyn Warren, Tessa Witkemper and Kirstin Woodruff received first-year letters; and Alison Conley, Morgan Dennis, Shelby Georges, Sarah Jackson, Ashley Milburn, Ashley Rose, Brandie Thompson, Lindsay Tice and Rinna Williams received certificates of participation.

The school also honored its 2007-08 SBC scholar athletes. The SBC handed out 54 honors in the combined three season.

Fall SBC scholar athletes were Kyle Akers, football; Brooke Beam, tennis; Grant Houck, football; Rachael Houck, volleyball; Rebecca Houck, cheerleading; Kirby Keltner, cross country; Courtney Livingston, tennis; Pavol Malo, cross country; Matt McFadden, football; Steve McFadden, football; Hannah Moore, volleyball; Emily Nunn, tennis; Matt Reynolds, cross country; Naveen Sharma, golf; Jamie Sholler, tennis; Steven Sodini, football; Ben Thompson, football; Brandie Thompson, tennis; Amanda Uhl, volleyball; Chelsea Ward, cheerleading; Kaitlyn Warren, cross country; Tessa Witkemper, volleyball; and Andrew Young, cross country.

Winter scholar athletes were Andrew Bond, basketball; Rachael Houck, basketball; Lisa Kiemer, basketball; Dani Krabbe, cheerleading; Lara Luttrell, basketball; Matt McFadden, basketball; Sammi Saville, basketball; Steven Sodini, basketball; Becky Stanforth, cheerleading; Amanda Uhl, basketball; Brittany Vandervort, cheerleading; Matt Williams, basketball; and Tessa Witkemper, basketball.

SBC spring scholar athletes were Andrew Bond, baseball; C.J. Davis, track and field; Grant Houck, baseball; Rachael Houck, softball; Zach Hough, baseball; Kirby Keltner, tennis; Pavol Malo, track and field; Matt McFadden, baseball; Steve McFadden, baseball; Hannah Moore, softball; Thomas Rupp, tennis; Sammi Saville, track and field; Naveen Sharma, tennis; Amanda Uhl, softball and track and field; Kaitlyn Warren, track and field; Kirstin Woodruff, track and field; and Andrew Young, track and field.

EC presented scholar athlete awards for the overall school year to its student-athletes.

Steven Sodini (football and basketball) and Kirby Keltner (cross country and tennis) received fourth-year scholar athlete honors. Receiving a third-year honor was Sammi Saville for basketball and track and field.
