LEES CREEK — East Clinton continues its solid play Thursday with a 4-1 girls tennis win over Hillsboro. “Hillsboro coach LaRue Turner is a very smart coach and he has a good team,” EC head coach Jerry Carpenter said. “We are very focused this year and every match, league or non league, is an important match. The girls never give up and push each other hard in practice.” The singles trio of Amber Boris, Emily Nunn and Brooke Vandervort were also victorious. BLANCHESTER — East Clinton won three tight matches and blanked Blanchester 5-0 in a Southern Buckeye Conference girls tennis match Thursday afternoon. The East Clinton girls tennis team swept a pair of matches Tuesday with Batavia. The Lady Astros won by identical 5-0 scores. “The girls continue to play very hard,” said EC coach Jerry Carpenter. “Doubleheaders are never easy and Batavia is well coached. As a team, we are focusing on not where you are at in a match, but only playing the point. BLANCHESTER — The East Clinton pairing of Brandie Thompson and Beth Huffman finished second Wednesday in the Southern Buckeye Conference girls tennis tournament here at the BHS courts. Thompson and Huffman lost to the Amelia duo of Amato and Buten 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 “Brandie Thompson and Beth Huffman have a great chemistry and they support each other well,” said EC head coach Jerry Carpenter. “Amelia’s head coach said this is one of the hardest matches his girls have played. We knew playing for the championship against Amelia was going to be our hardest match of the year.
