Playing its third game in six days, East Clinton defeated Felicity, 52-49, in a Southern Buckeye Conference girls basketball game Saturday afternoon. East Clinton is 3-1 in the SBC and travels to Blanchester Thursday. The rugged schedule and a Felicity loss to Batavia earlier in the year made this game closer than it probably should have been, EC coach Tracy Fliehman said.
“It was are third game in six days and we had just come off league wins at Williamsburg and Batavia and we definitely showed it,” Fliehman said. “Felicity had been defeated earlier in the year by Batavia 72-29 and our girls were definitely over confident going into the contest.” In fact, Fliehman said East Clinton was outplayed in just about every aspect of the game except the scoreboard. “The girls just had a difficult time mentally and physically,” he said. “We settled for way too many outside shots throughout the game and we just didn’t seem to have the quickness to drive to the basket or get any of our shots to fall.” Amanda Uhl, a senior, led EC with 18 points, including six in the third period to keep the game close. Despite that, East Clinton trailed 36-30 after three. It was a nine-point EC deficit with about 5:00 left in the game, Fliehman said. In the final period, Uhl and classmate Brittany Spurlock scored 17 of East Clinton’s 22 points as the Lady Astros rallied for the win. Hilarie Noes had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Astros. She also came up with a steal on a Felicity inbound pass that led to a pair of free throws by Spurlock to seal the win. Bri Knisley had eight points and 10 rebounds. Tessa Witkemper had six points. Kirstin Woodruff added two and Sam Henderson tossed in one. Add as favourites (26) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 234
