Tuesday, 03 February 2009
DELPHOS – Delphos Jefferson’s Aaron Schuerman, one of the leaders of Jefferson’s regional baseball team last spring, has been selected to become a part of the United States of America’s Athletes International Baseball Team in 2009. Schuerman has been selected, which means he does not have to try-out to make the team, as he was highly recommended for the team and was accepted. The USA Athletes International Baseball Team will participate in the 2009 Chianti Series in Chianti, Italy. The USA Athletes International was formed in 1992 and is a non-profit organizational. Their web site is: www.usaai.org. “I am very honored for being selected for the United States International Baseball Team. It took a lot of hard work and dedication to get where I am today. I have had a lot of good coaches along the way. I love baseball and take any opportunity to play the game,” Aaron Schuerman said. Schuerman plays both baseball and football at Delphos Jefferson, while also participating in Indoor Track. Recently, Schuerman competed in indoor events at the University of Findlay and at the Ohio Northern University. Competing against teams such as Dayton Dunbar, Huber Heights Wayne, Mansfield Senior, Lima Senior, and Toledo Rodgers, on January 3 of this year, Schuerman finished tenth in the 55m dash and fourth in the 200m dash. In a meet on January 25 of this year, Schuerman finished first in 200m dash (23.55) and second in 55m dash (6.74) Schuerman has received many post-season accolades during his career, including making the VW-Area All-Area Team in both baseball and football, along with: *Football - 1st Team Offense and Defense NWC Honorable Mention District, Lima Dream-Team Honorable Mention, 1st Team Offense, Defense, and Punt Returner in the Van Wert area. *Baseball - 2008 Season the Delphos Jefferson Wildcats made it to Regionals and Aaron went 14-17 in the tournament. In the tournament, Aaron hit a homerun left handed and one right handed. Also, was named 1st Team All-Van Wert area. Aaron was the first Jefferson player ever to hit for the cycle in his 2007 season. Overall, Aaron has been an all-around athlete, playing baseball (14 years) and football (6 years), along with trying basketball and soccer. His favorite sport though, is baseball. Aaron idolizes Barry Larkin (former Cincinnati Reds All-Star Player). Aaron desires to attend college, major in Athletic Training/Sports Management and play collegiate baseball. His short term goals included finishing high school with a solid academic background (presently a 3.3 grade point average) and help his team to a possible state baseball title in the spring. Aaron’s long term goal is to hopefully have a shot a professional baseball, and then “pay forward” so to speak to help little league baseball players fulfill their dreams.
