Wednesday, 01 September 2010

ADAMS TOWNSHIP — The Clinton-Massie girls tennis team lost a South Central Ohio League match Wednesday to Washington Senior, 4-1, on the CM courts.

“My girls really showed some grit while fighting their way through the intense heat this afternoon,” said CM coach Jill Borton. “I was impressed with my first doubles team who pulled off a first set win in a tie-breaker, but then went on to lose in a tough three sets.”

Borton also was pleased with the play of German exchange student Elisabeth Riehle, who lost a 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 1-6 match at first singles.

MADEIRA — The Clinton-Massie girls tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision Thursday to Madeira at the Madeira Swim Club.

“Madeira really was a closely-matched team in terms of ability,” CM coach Jill Borton said. “Our only highlight ended up being Ann Gailliot’s win at first singles. It just wasn’t our girls night to shine.”

Gailliot, a freshman, recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win over first singles over sophomore Julia Vanderlinde.

Miami Trace blanks Clinton-Massie 5-0 PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 26 August 2010

EBER — The Clinton-Massie girls tennis team dropped a 5-0 match to Miami Trace in South Central Ohio League action Wednesday.

“I knew prior to the meet that my less experienced team would face difficulties playing against Miami Trace’s well coached, deep numbered talent,” CM coach Jill Borton said. “I shuffled my line-up a bit, shifting Mary Maher to first doubles to pair up as a seniors duo with Kelly Helton. I had hoped we might pull off a win after a close first set ending in 4-6. This doubles combination will be one to watch this season.”

Hillsboro hands CM 4-1 loss in SCOL opener PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 23 August 2010

HILLSBORO — Opening South Central Ohio League play, the Clinton-Massie girls tennis team dropped a 4-1 league opener to Hillsboro Monday afternoon.

Ann Gailliot, the CM freshman at third singles, posted the lone win, 6-1, 6-0.

“I am seeing noticeable improvements from last year in quite a few areas,” CM coach Jill Borton said. “However, we still need to concentrate on moving away from just keeping the ball in play to using effective strategy. We definitely had a couple of occasions tonight to make a come back. Especially after our first doubles team came back and won the second set 6-3. Instead, Hillsboro’s consistent play was a mark of their experience.”
