MIAMISBURG — The Clinton-Massie girls golf season ended at the Div. II sectional tournament at Pipestone Golf Course. As a team, the Lady Falcons were fifth with a 419. The fourth place team, Kenton Ridge, shot a 409. The top four teams and top four individuals advanced to the district tournament.
Contessa Carrara Kettering Alter won the event with a 349. Tippecanoe was second with a 354 and Greenon shot a 400, good enough for third place. “One stroke here or there and we would have advanced,” said CM coach Margie Walker. “It came down to the last team, Kenton Ridge, to post their score before we knew the outcome. We finished in the first group of teams and had to wait two hours for them to post their scores. We knew it was going to be close and up until that time, we could tell from the front nine scores that we had beaten the other teams that we needed to.” Walker said as the first score was posted — a 106 — there was still hope. The second score quickly dashed those hopes. “When their second girl posted a 96, we knew that we couldn’t make up those strokes,” she said. “I know how I felt as a coach and it was unbelievably sad to watch the girls’ faces as they knew their season has ended. “They have had a great season and worked so hard. I know that they will come back next year with the same attitude they had this year but they now know what it takes to move on. They will not forget it.” Alexis Stover led the Lady Falcons with a 103 and was followed by Stacy Lunsford with 104, Katie Heyob with 105, Olivia Wolfe with 107 and Contessa Carrara with 119. Carrera is the lone senior on the team. “I was standing on the 18th green when she rolled her last putt in trying to take her picture,” Walker said. “She was crying so hard and so was I. That is truly what the season is all about.” Add as favourites (32) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 1008
