The Clinton-Massie High School football team is coming off a 49-0 win over Blanchester and headed to Frank Irelan Field to open home play against Waynesville on Friday.
Last week, Waynesville defeated East Clinton 14-0. “They have the same offense and same defensive scheme as last year. They also have the Millar kid and their quarterback. They are very talented they can score points and have a good passing game. They force you to play real disciplined football. You have to check the fullback and QB, and also the receivers in the passing game. They have the ability to score,” said CM head coach Dan McSurley. “We just have to play disciplined defense. They are quick … if you don’t stop their option they are going to look quick. If you are disciplined in your defensive scheme you are going to stop each part of their option scheme. We are going to try to limit how many big plays they make.” After last week’s big Keg Game win, the Falcons are back to work looking to go 1-0 this week. “It is one of those games our kids look at as a non-conference game, a team projected to win their league and a returning playoff team. When you look at it on paper, you have to see it is another playoff type team. If we want to achieve our goals, we are going to have to win this ball game,” said McSurley. Although the Falcons put in a solid 49-0 performance last week — there is still room for improvement. McSurley said the team has to limit penalties. “We have to clean up our game. We took good care of the ball. We have to get better on the special teams. You can’t give up return yards,” he said. The coach looks for Mike Stenger, Andrew Fisher, Paul Singleton, Willie Hart, Kyle Robinson and Corby Running to lead the team Friday night. “I think our O-line has got to take the game over,” McSurley said. “If we play good up front, we have enough talent in the backfield that we should be able to control the clock and move the chains and keep their offense off the field.” Add as favourites (16) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 1250
