ADAMS TOWNSHIP — A hot-shooting Clinton-Massie squad had to hold off Madison-Plains Tuesday night, 58-52, in South Central Ohio League girls basketball action at the Lebanon Road gym.

The Lady Falcons made 16 of 22 shots from the field and free throw line in the final period but were unable to pull away from an equally hot Lady Eagles team. Madison-Plains scored 26 points through three periods and matched that with 26 in the fourth.

“We (coaches and players) have to do a better job guarding the perimeter,” CM head coach Allen Wilkinson said. “Madison-Plains did a great job, they didn’t quit. They didn’t give up.”

Jordanne Gambill poured in a game- and career-high 34 points, including a phenomenal 16 for 20 at the free throw line. Gambill picked up offensive steam in the middle two quarters, registering 10 in the second and 10 in the third as the Lady Falcons raced out to a 36-26 lead going into the final period.

In the fourth, Clinton-Massie made 6 of 6 from the field in the fourth and 10 of 16 at the free throw line. Gambill was 4 for 6 at the line while Brooke Sargent swished through all 6 of her free throws in the fourth quarter.

Despite all that, Madison-Plains was right in the game.

“We didn”t crack,” Wilkinson said. “They kept scoring and we kept making foul shots.”

Wilkinson said this is the third game the Lady Falcons have shot free throw extremely well. He also noted a 22 for 27 performance against Western Brown and a 24 for 30 performance against Wilmington.

The long-time Clinton-Massie head coach said the team’s defensive effort was solid through three periods, noting the play of Alexis Stover and Kelsey Ward.

Clinton-Massie is 7-5 overall and 3-2 in the league. Madison-Plains drops to 5-6 overall and 2-4 in the league.
