GREEN TOWNSHIP — The Wilmington High School girls golf team defeated Clinton-Massie on the front nine of the Snow Hill Country Club on Thursday.
Wilmington shot a 180 to Massie’s 228. Match medalist was Lady ’Cane Lyz Cox with a 42. Also for WHS, Amanda Middleton shot a 44, samantha Stewart shot a 47 and Gabby Brown shot a 47. Playing but not scoring was Hannah Butcher with a 56. For the Lady Falcons, Stacy Lunsford shot a 54, Rebecca Fling shot a 57, Alexis Stover shot a 58 and Contessa Carrara and Megan Hayslip shot 59s. Playing but not scoring for CM was Olivia Wolfe with a 61. “I am extremely pleased with our performance today and this entire week. We continue to get better. I think Amanda’s confidence is carrying over to the other players. Today is the by far the best 9-hole round we have had in the last 2 years as a team. Every golfer on this squad made improvements today,” said WHS head coach Kathy Collins. “Amanda continues to be a solid No. 1 for us. She has been consistent for two weeks. Lyz has made huge strides this week and as she gains confidence, she’ll continue to score better. This is the second time she has been medalist this week. Gabby’s first six holes today were the best six consecutive holes I have seen her play. Samantha is really focused on establishing a routine that will make her successful around the greens. Her short game was as good as it has been all season. Hannah was committed to lowering her score after Tuesday’s match at Snow Hill. Her focus on that goal got her back to where she was at the end of last season. It may sound funny to most, but Tori getting through a nine hole round and only losing one ball is great progress. We continue to work on her swing. Once she really gets the hang of it, she’ll be scoring well. “At the JV level, Freshman Ally Gulajs had a chip in. Today was her first time in a match and she did well. It is always a great match when we get to play Massie. Coach Walker’s team should be proud of their performance today as well. Most had never played Snow Hill and they were able to do a lot of good things. The greens there are much different and tougher than their home course. I congratulate them for a very good round of golf today.” Wilmington is now 11-1 on the season. Add as favourites (15) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 348
