The board of control of the South Central Ohio League will meet Thursday with an eye on expansion, and could possible vote on the future of Wilmington as a league member.
According to Randy Dunlap, Clinton-Massie High School principal and president of the board of control, Wilmington has officially applied to join the SCOL. Jonathan Alder has previously applied to the SCOL and could also be added, Dunlap said. But because an agenda for the league meeting had not been written as of Friday morning, Dunlap said he wasn’t certain if there was going to be a vote on expansion. “We need to discuss the pros and cons (of expansion) for the league as a whole,” Dunlap said. “I think we need a reasonable time to evaluate without stringing Wilmington out.” Dunlap said if one of the other league principals makes a motion to vote on expansion and the motion gets a second, then the league would vote. The board of control of the SCOL is made up of the seven high school principals at member schools. It might make more sense to discuss expansion, as Dunlap said, at Thursday’s meeting, give schools time to discuss with their boards of education and community members, then vote at the league’s scheduled Nov. 5 meeting. Wilmington is currently a member of the Fort Ancient Valley Conference, its only league affiliation since the SCOL disband in 1992. Wilmington was a member of the FAVC when the SCOL re-formed and opted not to join the SCOL at that time. The SCOL consists of Clinton-Massie, Washington, Miami Trace, London, Madison Plains, McClain and Hillsboro. Wilmington is in the FAVC Cardinal Division with Kings, Little Miami, Turpin, Walnut Hills and Amelia. The Barons are leaving the FAVC and joining the Southern Buckeye Conference following the current school year. Wilmington was a charter member of the SCOL in 1923 and won the league’s first football and basketball titles. Add as favourites (35) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 982
