OLR, WNJ win Internet awards

The Ohio Locker Room and Wilmington News Journal web sites won awards in the Suburban Newspapers of America Local Community Web Site Contest 2008, according to SNA.

Ohio Locker Room (www.ohiolockerroom.com) took second place in Class B for the Best Niche Site or Project category.

The News Journal’s site (www.wnewsj.com) was given honorable mention in Class B Best Local Community Web Site.

Class B is the category for newspapers with circulation of 40,000 and under.

“These awards are a testament to the commitment to the Internet made by the News Journal and the Brown Publishing Co.,” said Mark Huber, web publisher for the News Journal. “Quite a number people are involved in making these web sites the award-winners that they are. They all are to be commended for their dedication and hard work to making these sites a sought-after part of our readers’ lives.”

And the awards just raise the bar for the future.

“We will continue to work hard to add to and improve our web sites so that our readers can get up-to-date information about Clinton County and the region,” Huber said.

In the judge’s comments, it was said about wnewsj.com “The Wilmington News Journal offers a multi-media site that is updated throughout the day. The site is easy to navigate and offers a user-friendly design. E-Newsletters and E-Alerts are offered for registered users. The community response is high for the site with forums, polls, user generated stories and photos. Overall, the site offers community members a place to interact and receive updated news.”

About ohiolockerroom.com, the judges said, “Ohiolockerroom.com offers community members local prep sports throughout a large area. The site plays host to more than 100 schools sporting statistics, information, etc. The site is easy-to-navigate and offers a clean design. Blogs and forums have a strong community response and enhance the site.”
