Josh Jewett is very much in tune with the economic problems in this country. However, for five years now Jewett has been running the “Dare To Be Different (D2BD) football camp with a monetary disclaimer.

“The commuter cost is based upon what a family can afford,” said Jewett, a 1995 Wilmington High School graduate and president of D2BD. “If a penny is all they can afford, then we’ll accept it and work with the families to assure that no young men miss this great opportunity.”

The fifth annual Dare To Be Different football camp will be held July 6-10 at Wilmington College.

Cost for the camp is $50 for commuters and $250 for camp residents. The application deadline for the camp is June 26. The camp is for football players in grades 4-10.

Dare To Be Different (D2BD) is a faith-based organization that helps youth discover their unfound potential while developing communication, strategic thinking and team building skills.

Campers should bring football cleats, athletic shoes, shorts, T-shirts, sweats and towels.

Overnight campers should also bring an alarm clock, fan, water bottle, casual clothing, toiletries, spending money, extra towels, gym shoes, swimsuit, duffel bag, sleeping bag, bed sheets and a pillow.

A meal will be provided to all campers prior to the afternoon practice. The Sodexho food service at Wilmington College will have meals available for all athletes.

Check-in time for the camp is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 5.
