Former Wilmington College All-American Carl Amerine has been named head wrestling coach at his alma mater. Amerine succeeds his former coach Jim Marsh, who was named Wilmington’s director of operations in April.

“We’re happy to have Carl back in our program,” said Terry Rupert, Wilmington College’s vice president for Athletic administration/director of athletics. “Carl’s experience as a wrestler and as a collegiate assistant make him a good fit for what we strive to accomplish at the Division III level. He also has strong recruiting ties to our area. We’re excited about what he brings to our athletic family.”

Amerine earned All-America honors twice while wrestling at Wilmington. He finished eighth in the 157-pound weight class at the 2005 NCAA Championship and sixth in the 149-pound class in 2006. He finished his WC career with an 88-31 record.

Amerine was an assistant wrestling coach at Wabash College during the 2007-08 season.

“It’s exciting to be able to come back to my alma mater, a place I am proud of and passionate about,” said Amerine, a 2007 Wilmington grad. “Ohio is such a hotbed for high school wrestling. It represents the chance for us to continue the growth of Wilmington’s program. There are some young studs on the Wilmington team, guys who have the potential to leave a great mark in the books before they leave Wilmington. We’re going to work hard to complement them with a strong recruiting class.”
