Another rousing season of high school football got underway Friday night, and the Western Brown Broncos were quick out the gate to grab a 28-14 win over the Hillsboro Indians. Last year, it took a last minute touchdown pass for the Broncos to escape Hillsboro with a narrow win, but this year it was a different story on the Broncos’ home turf.

The No. 1 seed Eastern Lady Warriors (18-5) headed to round three of the Southeast District Division III Sectional Tournament after cruising to a 10-0 run rule victory over the No. 8 seed West Union Lady Dragons in the second round Monday evening at Eastern High School. Mother Nature sure did dampen the field at Eastern High School during Monday’s tournament bout, but she sure didn’t have an effect on the Lady Warriors’ swift bats.

On one end of the crowded gymnasium there was a team dressed in blue and yellow that chanted cheers of victory while its fans rejoiced another win. On the other end of the gymnasium there was a team dressed in green and white that shared in tears of sorrow, with hard-working athletes embracing each other one last time as teammates during the 2007-2008 basketball season. A dazzling post-season tournament run had reached the end for the Fayetteville Lady Rockets, but the Lehman Catholic Lady Cavaliers survived for at least one more round, advancing to the Regional Tournament.
The Cavaliers defeated the Lady Rockets 65-48 while playing for the Southwest District Division IV Title at Vandalia-Butler High School Feb. 23.

Victory, pride and determination are three words that could describe the Georgetown Lady G-Men’s outstanding 2007-2008 season on the hardwood. Making a lengthy run in the post-season tournament is what every high school basketball team hopes for, but only four teams in all of Ohio will be able to say they won their last bout of the season. The Lady G-Men took the court Feb. 23 at Vandalia-Butler High School to take on the Badin Rams with the goal of claiming a 2008 Southwest District Division III Title. The Lady G-Men fell just shy of their goal, suffering a 50-39 loss to mark an end to a fabulous season.
