Feb 6: Cane, Knights ' it's over ... PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 06 February 2009

WHS hangs on for a 49-44 win. WIlmington goes to 15-1 overall and 8-0 in the FAVC Cardinal. Knights are 5-10, 3-4.

Rollins 12, Arehart 4 Osterbrock 10 Berlin 12 Heard 4 Williams 1 Seeger 5 Blakeman 1.

Smith 19 for kings.

---

WHS up 2 with 1:50 to play, 46-44.

---

WHS with a big third quarter regains the lead after three periods. WIlmington 38, Kings 34. Berlin had 7 in the third and Osterbrock dropped in 6.

---

Kings 28 WHS 19 at the half. Not sure if Wilmington has trailed by this many in a game this season. Rollins has 7 and Seeger and Berlin 5 each. Tyler SMyth has 12, all on thre-pointers, to lead the Knights.

---

WHS 12 Kings 11 after one. WHS went up 7-2 early and threatened blowout but the Knights were patient on offense and kept it close at the end of the quarter.

---

Kings has brought a good crowd to the game tonight to see their Knights face the No. 3 ranked Hurricane in a Fort Ancient Valley Conference battle. JV still has 4 to play so probably a little later than 7:30 will be tip time.....

Feb 3: Cane and Elks ... it's over PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 03 February 2009

Clutch free throws late by  Rollins and HEard help WIlmington to a 54-49 win over Centerville on a big night for the hurricane. WHS ranked NO. 3 in Div. II and Centerville ranked No. 15 in Div. I. This is huge for the WHS tournament draw coming up Sunday.

Now can WHS bounce back from this game, this atmosphere on Friday night against Kings. We'll have that one right here on OLR.

---

4:12 to play WHS up 7, 43-36.

--

WHS 37 Centerville 34 after three. Wollins and Williams with 4 each in the third. Ashworth had 7 for the Elks in the period.

WHS survived much of the quarter with Rollins on the bench with 3 fouls.

---

What a game. WHS 24 Centerville 21 at the break. WHS hit 4 three pointers in the second, the last of which was a bomb from the left wing by Osterbrock in the final seconds to give WHS a three point lead.

Kavanaugh has just thre. BLakeman has 5 and Williams 6 to lead WHS.

---

WHS 7, Centerville 5 after one period. The large crowd is really seeing a big time game. Teams a little sluggish early but not playingpoorly so we'll see how things develop as the game unfolds and the teams get more comfortable.

---

The officials are here and received a standing ovation ... Will it be the only one of the night for the men in stripes? We shall see. Tip time is set for 8:02 p.m.

---

The Wilmington Hurricane and the Centerville Elks are ready to get underway at the middle school gym. The officials are coming from Cincinnati and are running a bit late otherwise this game would have started by now. Probably looking at 8 pm tipoff. I'll keep you posted.

Jan 30: The answer is no ... PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 30 January 2009

No 3 Wilmington improves to 13-1 with a 67-49 win over Amelia. Hurricane led all the way. WHS off until Tuesday when the Gold Basketball Reunion game takes place. Centerville coached by Jim staley comes to town. Between the JV and varsity game the 1976-77 team and the 1978-79 team will be honored.

WHS 19 for 41 at the line. That won't cut it.

We'll be there and hope you can tag along.

WHS now 13-1 overall and 7-0 in the FAVC Cardinal.

Centerville is 10-2 pending the outcome of this weekends games.

---

Three quarters in the books. WHS 48 Amelia 35.

Rollins did not play at all in the third, a period which started with a technical against WHS and then at the first dead ball there was another technical. If they were both on the bench I wonder why a whs coach - Noszka - wasn't ejected with the two technicals.

---

THe WHS shutout lasted one shot into the second half as the Barons scored early and got to within six I think but WHS pulled away and lead at the break 31-18.

---

We are getting ready for the second and the Barons have yet to score. 12-0 WHS.

---

We are ready for the tip, just a few minutes late but ... here we go ....

---

Believe it or not, Wilmington will make the trip to Amelia for tonight’s boys basketball game. If you can’t go or don’t want to brave the elements, sit back and enjoy the game between the No. 3 Hurricane and the only FAVC team to knock them off a year ago Amelia. Tip scheduled for 7:30 p.m. .....

---

Wilmington is off to a fast start leading 9-0 with 3:40 to play in the first.

---

Starters for WHS Rollins, Berlin, Arehart, Heard, Osterbrock.

For Elder Chidemo, Volgelsang, 4. Murphy, Jones, Viox.

---

Varsity game should tip off between Elder and Wilmington at about 7:30 pm.

-----

We're at the middle school gym on the WHS campus getting ready for the No. 3 Hurricane and the Elder Panthers. The JV game is about midway through the third period at 6:34 pm so the varsity is looking prettty good for a 7:30 pm start.

This is not the first meeting between the two schools. The first meeting is believed to be during the 1934-35 season when Elder defeated Wilmington 28-9. Based on records I have, which are likely the only records available for this series, I have Elder leading 6-0.

Should be a good one. Stay tuned .......

---

We're here in Morrow tonight for the Little Miami Panthers and the Wilmington Hurricane.

As I write this at approximately 7:15 pm, the JV game still has 4:16 to play. Also, it's homecoming for the Panthers so things might be running a big late.

The third-ranked Hurricane are 10-1 but coming off their first loss of the season this past Tuesday against Lakota West, 68-64.

Little Miami is 4-7, but has won 2 in a row.

Wilmington won the first meeting with Little Miami 75-32

Jan. 16: WHS @Turpin PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 16 January 2009

Wilmington 61 Turpin 28. The fifth-ranked WHS squad is now 10-0.

---

Wilmington 46 Turpin 18. Spartans didn't score until 3:21 mark.

---

Wilmington 29 Turpin 14 at the half. Berlin hit back to back 3-pointers. WHS has forced 12 Turpin turnovers and gathered in 8 offensive rebounds.

---

Wilmington 15 Turpin 6 after one. Turpin led 4-2 early... real early.

----

We are ready to go at Turping where the Hurricane boys basketball team at 9-0 is ready to battle the Spartans. Right now, just about midway through the JV game, there are just as many people from Wilmington here than Turpin. Well, at least just as many people on the WIlmington side as the Turpin side.  You have to give credit to Hurricane fans, even when they aren't 9-0, they do support their athletics. Congrats!!!
