FRANKLIN — The Blanchester High School girls basketball team evened its record with a 41-39 win over Felicity in Southern Buckeye Conference action on Saturday.
BHS is now 8-8 on the season and 6-5 in the SBC. Felicity falls to 1-13 on the season and 1-10 in league play. The Blanchester attack was led by Jenna Weisflock with her third double-double of the season. She scored 16 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for the Lady Wildcats. Felicity won the first quarter 17-12 and trailed 24-22 at the intermission. “In the first quarter, we did not do a good job defensively or rebounding the basketball and got behind 17-12. Ashley Watkins hit two three-pointers in the first quarter to help keep us within striking distance of Felicity,” said BHS head coach Jason Gray. “We did a better job defensively the second quarter and were able to get back into the game and only be down one at halftime.” Blanchester stepped up and took a four-point lead in the second half, but Felicity responded and regained the lead by three — 39-36 — with less than two minutes left in the game. On Blanchester’s next possession, Weisflock scored on an offensive rebound and was fouled. She converted from the charity stripe and tied the game. Chelsea Wisniewski then hit a jumper from the right baseline with 24 seconds remaining to give BHS the 41-39 lead and the win. “I was proud of the way the girls fought the entire night despite not playing one of our better games of the season. We did a nice job of making the plays we had to at the right time to win the game,” said Gray. Wisniewski finished the game with six points, six rebounds and three assists. Jennifer Rineair pulled down eight rebounds and dished out two assists to go along with four points. BHS returns to action 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Batavia in SBC play.
