BLANCHESTER — Marcus Short is no stranger to successful basketball having coached the Little Miami High School girls basketball team to the state final four in 2006.

The Blanchester Local Schools Board of Education approved the hiring of Short as the new head boys basketball coach to succeed Bennie Carroll. Short — who will remain on staff with Little Miami schools — said he is excited to take this opportunity. “I am just really humbled that they are giving me the opportunity and i hope to set a good example for the kids. I think winning will be a byproduct of how we do things and hopefully the kids can look back later in life and say they were happy they played for me,” said Short. Short has an impressive resume with the Lady Panthers program. He was the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Cardinal Division Coach of the Year in 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007; was the Division II District 15 Coach of the Year in 2005 and 2006; Associated Press Division II Ohio and Southwest District Coach of the Year in 2006; head coach for the Ohio-Kentucky All-Star game in 2007 and assistant in 2006. He took over the LMHS girls program in 2000. From 1992 to 2000, he coached he boys freshmen team, and coached junior high boys from 1987 to 1992. Moving from a successful program to a work-in-progress is no problem for Short. “I don’t try to put it in terms as what that team (LMHS 2006) did. I try to put it into terms as going into a program and try to help make the kids successful. Success is at different levels. I am just looking at it to hopefully continued what Coach Carroll has done there. He has laid the foundation and maybe we can start with some baby-steps … maybe a league title in the next few years and then go from there,” said Short. “I think it boils down to one thing — your players. There are a lot of good coaches out there and you have to have the players to get it done. You have to have the if kids want to be successful as a team. They have to play for each other. If it is important for them, then they will get the job done.” Add as favourites (31) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 672
