GOSHEN — Chris Petry’s bucket with 3 seconds remaining in Friday’s contest lifted Goshen to a 47-45 win over Blanchester in Southern Buckeye Conference high school basketball action.
Josh Ross Goshen is now 3-6 on the season and 2-3 in the SBC. Blanchester falls to 3-8 on the season and 2-5 in league play. The teams battled through the fourth quarter and traded leads five times. Goshen held a 34-33 edge headed into the fourth quarter when Nick Wake hit a field goal to pus the team up 36-33. Blan’s Nash Ballinger then hit a two, followed by two from Goshen’s Dustin Dunham for a 38-35 score. Blan then got two points each from Kalib Starks and Steven White to take a 39-38 lead. A bucket from Wake put Goshen up again, 40-39. Blan answered with two points from Ballinger to regain the lead, and on the next GHS possession, Blan’s Bryson Lewis picked off a pass and dished to A.J. Wiley who scored two more for the Wildcats for a 43-40 advantage. Petry then tied the game with a big three off a Blanchester turnover. Wiley put the Wildcats back infront with a two — 45-43 — and Jordan Poff again evened the field with a bucket for the Warriors, tieing it up 45-45. After Goshen’s Cody McClanahan missed the first of bonus shots, White pulled down the board for the Wildcats and was fouled on the play. Blanchester inbounded but failed to convert on the possession. Goshen then took the ball downcourt and chewed over a minute off the clock before Petry’s game-winning shot with 3.1 seconds remaining in regulation. “We had mental lapses and turnovers. That three pointer was crucial and really hurt us,” said BHS head coach Bennie Carroll. “We played fairly hard. We did some good things, but we made some mistakes at crucial times. We didn’t do a real good job rebounding or playing defense.” The Wildcats will most likely be without Tanner Bolin the rest of the season due to an injury. To top that loss, the Wiley and White were saddled with fouls for a big portion of the game. “When the guys are sitting next to me, it isn’t good,” said Carroll. Despite the time on the bench, Wiley led all scorers with 17 points — 10 of which came in the second quarter when the Wildcats took a 2-point lead into the intermission. Also for BHS, Starks and Josh Ross scored eight points each. “Eric Cook played well off the bench and gave us solid minutes,” said Carroll. Petry was top scorer for the Warriors with 14. Blanchester will return to action 7:30 p.m. tonight at Clinton-Massie in non-league play. SUMMARY Add as favourites (29) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 527
