CENTERVILLE — The Russia boys took first place Saturday in the Black Division of the Centerville Stampede, finishing with 55 points to win over 19 other teams.

Highlighting the day for the Raiders was Derek Bornhorst, who was second overall in 16:13, which is a new Russia school record.

Brian Queener was eighth in 17:03, Andy Toller 11th in 17:10, Alex York 14th in 17:17, and Luke Pohlman 20th in 17:30. Chris Ball was 21st, also in 17:30.

The Russia girls also had an excellent day, placing second in the small-school division out of 14 teams.

Katie Borchers was second overall in 19:23, Macy Monnin 13th in 20:53, Sierra Heaton 15th in 20:55, Kayla Francis 19th in 21:11 and Makenzi Monnin 57th.

In the big-school division, Sidney’s Aaron Dinzeo crossed the line first in 16:02, helping the Jackets to a 12th-place finish.

• The Jackson Center junior high boys took top honors Saturday in the annual Anna Invitational Cross Country meet.

The Junior Tigers dominated their meet, scoring 36 points to 77 for Covington. There were 16 teams in all.

Leading the Tigers was Alex meyer, who was fourth in 11:27.3. Nathan Hensley was sixth in 11:28.2, Trey Elchert seventh in 11:30.2, Joseph Forsythe ninth in 11:37.1, and Levi Winner 14th in 11:55.6.

Anna’s Adam Larger also made the top 10, placing second in 11:06.8.

The two varsity races both went to Cincinnati Colerain.

The Lehman boys placd third with 126 and were led by Andrew Elsner, who was 11th in 16:51.8.

Houston standout Tyler Roeth took first place in 15:54.8 and New Knoxville’s Adam Wierwille was ninth in 16:46.5.

Jackson Center’s Beth Zimpfer won the girls race in 19:01.5 and Houston’s Allison Roeth was second in 19:04.2.

The top local/area team was Botkins in eighth place with 232. The Lady Trojans were led by Brittany Bailey in 38th in 21:24.9.

West Liberty-Salem won the junior high girls race with 35 points.
