Anna opened its season with a win in county play, beating Botkins in three games Tuesday 25-13, 25-19, 25-11.

The Lady Rockets got 22 assists and four aces from Kelsie Zumberger, 12 kills from Laura Gehret, nine kills from Carrie Watkins and seven kills from Ariane Billing.

Christie Fullenkamp had eight kills and eight digs for Botkins, and Megan Fullenkamp had 12 digs.

Anna won the junior varsity match 25-12, 25-12.

Lady Cavs lose

opener to Marion

MARIA STEIN — Lehman took on defending Division IV state champion Marion Local in its season opener Tuesday, and lost in three games 25-15, 25-22, 25-17.

Jessica Thobe led the Lady Cavs with 11 kills and nine digs, Jenni Paulus had 15 digs, Sarah Lynch added seven kills, Annie Fortkamp four, and Marlee Wion finished with 22 assists.

Marion Local also won the junior varsity game 25-7, 25-17.

Minster falls to C-J

MINSTER — Minster hosted Chaminade-Julienne in its season opener Tuesday and lost 25-20, 25-17, 25-18.

Erica Fullenkamp led Minster with 10 kills and four aces, Delanie Wolf had six kills and Sarah Purpus five, Ellen Gruber handed out 12 assists, and Kara Monnin had 12 digs.

the JV game went to Minster 25-20, 17-25, 25-18. Hanna Floyd had seven kills and two aces, and Tara Clune had five blocks.

The freshmen also play, and Minster won 25-6, 25-15. Sammi Brown had five kills and Kaitlyn Lehmkuhl nine aces for Minster.

Loramie wins 2nd

Fort Loramie ran its record to 2-0 with a 20-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-18 win over Russia in county play.

Russia drops to 1-2.

Bethany Hoelscher had 17 kills and 25 digs, Kristin Zumberger had 10 kills, and Tessa Benanzer had 45 kills.

Clair Ruhenkamp had 30 assists to go with six kills, and Andrea Holthaus had eight kills.

“Defensively we were not as sharp as we were Monday, and Russia really made us work for the win,” said Loramie coach JohnRodgers. “Tessa (Benanzer) played about as well as I could have hoped at this point in the season. She took away the tips they were scoring with early in the match. Rachel Meyer also had a solid match for us tonight. She doesn’t put up big numbers but she made several key plays when the game was tight.”

For Russia, Roni Homan had 14 kills, 12 digs, four blocks and four aces, Kristin Drees had 18 assists and seven digs, Chloe McEldowney had eight digs, and Sam Daniel had five kills and five blocks. Alissa Meyer also had five blocks.

“I thought we started off really strong this evening,” said Russia coach Lori Smith. “The second set we had opportunities and we just weren’t able to finish. I felt we lost some of our momentum after the second set and couldn’t seem to get back into it. We are a very young team in regards to varsity experience and we are making those types of mistakes.”

Russia won the JV match 25-23, 25-23.

Fairlawn 2-0

HOUSTON — Two teams with new coaches battled for five games at Houston Tuesday, with Fairlawn pulling out an 11-25, 25-15, 16-25, 25-15, 15-11 victory.

The win puts coach Danielle Cathcart’s team at 2-0 on the year. Houston falls to 0-2.

For Fairlawn, Courtney Davidson had 14 kills and eight digs, Kaitlyn Patrick had eight kills and 11 digs, Mindy Hughes had 22 assists, six digs and four aces, Leesha Bolton had eight kills, 12 digs and three aces, Stephanie Gillem had 11 digs and six aces, and Kayla Hamilton had 12 digs.

For Houston, Danielle Monnier had 16 kills, Kimmie Replogle 12 kills, and Hunter Braun 34 assists and 10 digs.

Fairlawn also won the JV game 25-13, 25-15.

Knoxville wins

NEW KNOXVILLE — The New Knoxville girls evened their record at 1-1 with a 24-26, 25-18, 25-22, 25-23 win over St. Marys in non-league girls volleyball.

The Lady Rangers got 21 assists from Jena Braden, 24 kills, three aces and 21 digs from Morgan Reineke and seven kills and 15 digs from Taylor Elshoff.

Knoxville also won the JV game 25-21, 25-22.
