DELPHOS -- Jefferson’s annual Alumni Baseball Game — to raise funds for the ACME and junior ACME teams — has been set for June 1. Warm-ups begin at 12:00 noon and the game at 1:00 p.m. Live pitching will be allowed for the first three innings; innings 4-9 will use a machine. The concession stand will sell brats and hamburgers, along with its usual fare. There is a charge to play. A T-shirt is also available for an additional cost. A Home Run Derby (with an entry fee) begins at 11:30 a.m. with a slow speed on the machine and a closer-than-normal fence. Contact Doug Geary (567-204-1524) to sign up and/or order a T-shirt. DELPHOS – The Delphos Jefferson Wildcats outlasted their counterparts from Kalida Monday night by a 9-4 count in varsity baseball action played at Delphos’ Wildcat Field.
DELPHOS -- Delphos St. John's Chad Reynolds, a 6-8 junior forward, has been named to the 2008 NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball All-American Team as an honorable mention selection. Reynolds led the Trojans in both scoring and rebounding this season — 16.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. The team leader in free-throw percentage, he shot 80.2% from the line this season. He was fifth in the Mid-Central Conference, shooting 51.1% from the field, and ranked 30th in the nation with a 44.2 percentage from the 3-point line. Earlier this month, Reynolds was named to the MCC All-Conference second team.
DELPHOS — The Delphos Tri-County Wrestling Club held its season-ending banquet Sunday.
Delphos Jefferson's Stuart Miller, who placed 2nd at the state championships this past season and is a two-time state qualifier, along with Delphos St. John's Brian Merschman, who placed 8th in the state championships in 2007 and also is a two-time state qualifier, handed out the awards. Both Miller and Merschman wrestled for the Delphos Tri-County Wrestling Club in grade school. Awards were divided into three groups by age. The first name in each category (except MVKWA Champion, Todd Sparks Award and Career Award) is the winner from the 4-7 age group; second name was 8-10; and the third name was ages 11-13. The club also passed out 48 participation awards. MVKWA Champions: Ethan Bonifas, Conner Holmes, Wyatt Schmersal, Justin Siefker, Trent Vonderwell, Brady Welker.
